2019 FAHM Kick-off Ceremony Honors Filipina Visionaries

Chicago 09 October 2019 – Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin led the 2019 Filipino American History Month (FAHM) Kick-Off ceremony held at the Alliance Francaise de Chicago on Thursday, 03 October 2019.

Consul General Jamoralin delivered remarks on the occasion of the start of the celebration in the Midwest of FAHM, which is commemorated every October. The Consul General described this year’s Kick-Off ceremony as unique, with the participation of a distinguished Filipino-American as guest speaker. A simple and unassuming man, Dr. A. Gabriel Esteban, 12th President of De Paul University, has led the university since 01 July 2017. Consul General Jamoralin and Dr. Esteban also awarded three (3) Filipina visionaries – Ms. Venus Veronica B. Leighton, Ms. Adeline A. Fajardo, and Ms. Estrella R. Alamar – for their “signifi cant contributions to history and for paving the way for the Filipino American community in the Midwest”. Delivering the welcome remarks on behalf of the Filipino-American community was Mr. Ruben Salazar, President of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation.

Consul General Jamoralin also congratulated the Filipino Young Leaders Program for organizing a fi lm showing of the award-winning Philippine movie “SIGNAL ROCK”, directed by Filipino director Chito Roño. In attendance was Mr. Christian Bables, the lead actor of the fi lm, who was awarded the Bright Star Award by Asian Pop-up Cinema.
